WHO IS ISRAEL SCHILL? -

As a passionate sports enthusiast and student at the University of Kentucky, I’m pursuing a degree in Sports Journalism with an Undergraduate Certificate in Sport Communication, Media, and Promotion. Originally from Goffstown, NH, I’ve always been drawn to sports—not just as a fan, but as a storyteller. From playing on local teams to watching the pros, sports have been a huge part of my life, and now, I’m lucky enough to pursue a career in sports media.

Currently, I’m involved in a variety of roles at the University of Kentucky. As a play-by-play commentator for the UK Men’s Lacrosse team, I provide live commentary while researching teams and players to deliver informative and engaging broadcasts. Additionally, I serve as the senior sports reporter for the Kentucky Kernel, where I cover a range of sports, from hockey and lacrosse to gymnastics and baseball. My work has been recognized with two KPA General Excellence Awards, and I’m committed to bringing the stories of athletes to life through compelling features and game coverage.

Beyond writing, I’m also part of the SEC Network production crew, where I’ve had the opportunity to work behind the scenes in multiple control rooms and venues for live sports broadcasts. I’ve gained hands-on experience as a utility assistant, camera operator, and instant replay operator, learning the ins and outs of production from some of the best in the industry.

In addition to my work in media, I also serve as the communications Chair for UK Hillel and co-host the weekly podcast Kernel at the Buzzer, discussing all things University of Kentucky sports alongside other reporters.

As a Jewish Heritage Fund Scholar and a member of ZBT, I’ve found a community that shares my passion for leadership, communication, and storytelling. The combination of my academic background, hands-on experience in media, and deep love for sports has shaped me into a driven and versatile sports journalist. I’m excited to continue growing, telling incredible stories, and contributing to the world of sports media.
